How to optimize plate heat exchangers:

When improving the PHEs or plate heat exchangers, we should put on mind two important factors, first the amount of heat transferred and the pressure drop have to be considered. That the pressure drop must be decreased and the amount of heat transfer must be increased.

The geometry of the plate heat exchanger is very important factor in heat transfer and pressure drop in plate heat exchangers. That’s why, higher heat transfer and less pressure drop are always targeted. Heat transfer plates are supplied as standard in material grade AISI304, AISI316L, Titanium, Titanium-Pd, SMO254, Hastelloy respectively, due to its corrosion-resistance and easy cleaning.

How gasketed plate heat exchangers work:

Gasketed plate heat exchangers have plates, those plates are fitted with elastomeric gaskets to seal the channels and direct fluids into other channels. Plate pack is pressed by tightening bolts fitted between the plates, and compressed between a frame plate and a pressure plate. The channel plates and the pressure plate are suspended from an upper carrying bar and located by a lower guiding bar, both of which are fixed to the support column. This design of gasketed plate heat exchanger allows for easy cleaning, and modifying the capacity by adding or removing plates. Here are some types of gasketed plate heat exchangers GPHE:

How the plate heat exchanger works:

The transfer area of Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger is made of series of corrugated plates, assembled between frame and pressure plates. Gaskets are the seals between plates. The fluids normally flow counter-currently through the heat exchanger. Which gives the most efficient thermal performance and enables close temperature approach.

Gaskets in general are seals used for efficiently sealing the heat exchanger.
